Simple Summer Snack Smiles

Love me some alliteration.

The Cuties had a gaggle of other girlies over this weekend for a “clubhouse” meeting and wanted some special snacks on short notice.  I ran to the grocery store and spied some 100 calorie mini ice cream sandwiches.  Not a single child needed to be counting their calories, but I was loving the smaller size of the treats in that they weren’t too much and on a hot day they could actually finish them before they became a giant drippy mess.

But they needed a little “szooshing” up.

Enter my sprinkles cabinet.  Do you remember that scene in Friends when Monica is meeting Ross’ new son for the first time and is overcome with emotion and doesn’t know what to say so she announces she “will always have gum?”  I am the Mom in our neighborhood who will always have sprinkles.  Seriously.  Knock on my door at 3 in the morning needing a cup of Halloween sprinkles and I’ve got them.  Metallic silver sprinkles for a Star Wars party?  I’m your gal.  Patriotic?  Do you want red, white and blue sprinkles, quins or nonpareils?  So I grabbed a couple of jars, a cookie sheet, some wax paper, a glass dish and my sandwiches.

I lined my tray with wax paper, and poured a bunch of sprinkles into the dish.  Then I simply unwrapped sandwiches and pressed each side into the sprinkles.  Magic!

Lay them on the cookie sheet and stick them back in the freezer and they’ll set until you’re ready to serve.  After an afternoon of playing in the sprinkler, there were big smiles when I walked out with this ~

However, I’m pretty sure the best use of these treats was when the neighborhood boys snuck over the fence with super soakers to “attack the girls” and I sweetly offered them some and winked at all the girls.  Who then grabbed all those super soakers the second they were put down and retaliated with great glee!

Summer fun has offically begun.

AGH! This is awesome! My kids would love to eat these!!!!

  3. What an awesome idea! I have tons of sprinkles because whenever we are in a cake-decorating isle, my son always goes for the sprinkles. And since we’re usually about 3/4 of the way through our grocery shopping, and I’ve already said “no” to him 3.4 million times… I usually cave. Though, it doesn’t sound like I have nearly as many as you…yet. 🙂
