New Rooms for The Cuties

The shipment arrived!  The shipment arrived!

{I feel like Tattoo on Fantasy Island waving the arrival of the plane!}

There is much joy in the Felt So Cute Japan household at the arrival of stuff, even though I did call Cute Husband about three times that afternoon in a state of panic about having brought way too much for the size of our apartment.  But I digress.

The top priorities were bedrooms, especially The Cuties’ {exacerbated by the movers having unpacked everyone’s clothing into enormous piles on our beds}.  So we moved with lightning speed!  Recognizing our limitations of rental furniture pieces, minimal options to hang things on walls, and a lot of beige walls and carpets, I’m pretty pleased with how they turned out.

Little Cutie’s room should look a wee bit familiar from this not so long ago ~

For both girls, moving from our very comfortable house to an apartment in the city more than doubled the size of their closets.  Who’d have thought?!

Big Cutie’s room was a bit more of a challenge as there were no double bed frames to rent so we had to find her new bedding for a twin bed.  However, she was very vocal in wanting to also keep her older things that reminded her of home.  And oh yes, could it please be in her favorite color, blue?  Mommy ~ Miracle worker ~ whatever!

 Because earthquakes are a semi-regular occurrence around here, I needed to figure out lightweight and safe “art” to hang that was different from Little Cutie’s mod-podged ‘S.’  This was a little tricky to hang and there were a few moments where I fell on the floor in a sea of paper lanterns giggling, but I managed to get them all up.  I think they look a wee bit Chihuly-esque {in a bargain basement, safe to hang over your 9-year-old daughter’s head in case of earthquakes kinda way!}.

And the other side of her room.  Can you tell there weren’t many choices in the children’s department of the furniture leasing store? ;-)

Apartments in Japan do not come with curtains, so we brought our own.  Of course “standard length” in a country that works on the metric system and “standard length” in the United States are not at all the same.  This is my long-winded explanation for why someday I will have to get around to hemming all the curtains in the apartment.  For now, however, they are up and functional, and that’s all that matters when the sun is currently rising around 5:30 in the morning.

  1. You could get stuff from IKEA since they have metric stuff. For now I’m sure the curtains are fine. The main important this is that the sun isn’t in their face at 5:30AM. Both rooms look real cute. I’m in Southern California and earthquakes are an issue here too. The lanterns above your daughter’s bed are really fun.
