The Living Room Tour

I’m going to start participating in the Show Us Your Life tour of homes and fun things with Kelly’s Korner blog now that’s she starting it up again.  I loved reading it last year when she did it and it gave me such fun ideas for my own house.  Plus…..the heads up a week in advance of what room is on deck is good incentive to get my tush in gear for a deep cleaning and organizing before taking pictures!

So here’s my living room looking in from our foyer.  The couch and chairs are by far my favorite things.  They were my grandparents from the 60s and started life orange and maize tweed.  When we inherited them the first thing I did was have them recovered and skirted.  Of course, now they’d be fabulously chic and very “Mad Men.”  Who knew?  The best part about that couch is that it’s so long four adults can comfortable sit on it at a party, which more importantly translates to Cute Husband and I both being able to nap on it at the same time!

The rug came with us from our previous home and while custom cut to that living room is totally wrong for this house.  However, my plans to replace it this year were completely foiled by our need to build a new chimney.  Being a responsible grown up totally stinks sometimes.  So for now I choose to ignore the fact that it’s boring, the wrong size, and stained from when we had a Newfoundland and he had giardia (feel free to shudder at the thought of a 150 lb dog with giardia.  It was not a pretty sight).

Here’s looking back the other direction.  We have a LOT of books in our house.  I pretty much chose that coffee table for three reasons: one, it’s already distressed, so no one could do any damage to it; two, it had room for all of our many art history and architecture books; and three it weighs so much it can tolerate the Cuties standing on it to perform Hannah Montana numbers over and over and over and over……

That big empty space is awaiting the “perfect game table” since we do a lot of family game nights.  The last time we went furniture shopping we went with the sole intention of finding said table, but came home with the armoire you see instead.  It opens up to this.  I’m pretty sure we’re not writing any parenting books anytime soon.

And this guy was an awesome find.  How fun is he?  I love tassels and have them all over my house.  I am regularly on the hunt for more.  However, I strongly recommend you do not do an internet search for “decorative tassels” without being prepared to giggle.  Consider yourself warned. 😉

And in uploading pictures, I’ve just discovered that I apparently have a new decorating apprentice in the house.  I wonder who is responsible?  Any votes whether it’s Cute Husband, Big Cutie or Little Cutie?  I think it should stay.  That pretty much represents my living room ~ “decorated, but kid friendly.”

love your wine case and the G on the fireplace

  12. feltsocute says:

The “barmoire” as we call it is from a local furniture store but it’s Martha Stewart for Bernhardt, so I imagine you can find it locally. I LOVE how much can fit in it ~ leave it to Martha to design all that organization.

The ‘G’ is a super easy homemade project – just an x-acto knife, glue gun and a lot of moss!

And thank you all so much for such kind comments!

  13. Lindsey says:

  26. Cheryl says:

    Hi –
Can you please tell me where you got the fabulous tassel? I would prefer not to google decorative tassels… Thanks, Cheryl

  27. feltsocute says:

It’s from either Marshalls or TJ Maxx, I can’t remember which one since I bought it about a year ago. They had a random shelf of a bunch of big ones like this guy (he’s about 9-10″ in size).

  28. feltsocute says:

Thank you, Wendy. Although I can’t take credit for adding in the softball. I’m pretty sure it was one of my daughters. 😉

  29. Cheryl says:

Hi – Thanks for the quick reply. I hope you had a happy holiday today (we celebrate also, I am also on Babycenter and Proboards). I love to search in TJ Maxx or Homegoods when I have time to kill. The best finds are when you are just browsing. I am halfway through looking at all of the living rooms and yours is, by far, the most beautiful. We have similar colors in our house. Thanks again, Cheryl

  30. feltsocute says:

Hope your holiday was good and your fast was easy! Thanks so much for your kind words about our room. I love looking at all those pretty rooms for ideas to stash away for different parts of my house!

  31. You’ve just started a new trend! I’m going to put one of my old softballs in my big bowl of balls to remind me of my love of the game. Thanks for sharing your space!

  32. meghan says:

What a beautiful living room! I love it – the baseball mixed in with the other decorations is hilarious. 🙂

  33. Thank you so much for sharing. Your living is so pretty and warm. And, the armoire is just beautiful- outside and in 😉

  34. Shoshanah says:

That armoire is awesome! I just love the way all your stemware looks in there

  35. Brittany C says:

Your drapes are beautiful, but my favorite part of the room is that G over your fireplace! I’m going to have to find myself a C that I can do that to! p.s. thanks for your sweet comment on my blog!

  36. Marlana says:

Everything looks so lovely and it’s so clean! I love the baseball in the bowl. My family likes to help out with decorating, too! 🙂

  37. feltsocute says:

Brittany – I couldn’t find a G big enough that I was willing to “give up” to covering with moss, so I took one of the ones I have elsewhere in my house and traced it on an inch thick sheet of styrofoam and then cut it out with an x-acto knife. It’s doesn’t need to be perfect since you’re covering it completely {in fact the top broke off while I was cutting it and I just pieced it together with a little piece of wire before I covered it with the moss ~ shhhhh}.

  38. Heather says:

Okay…so I totally love your living room. The colors are similar to mine…minus my walls being a lot more golden. Could you tell me the color of your walls and where you got it from? What you have is a lot more of the look I was going for and I’ve been thinking about repainting but want to make sure I get the color right. I’d really appreciate it!

  39. feltsocute says:

Unfortunately, I don’t know it! It happened to be the color on the walls when we bought the house. Although in a previous house we had Benjamin Moore HC 5, which is fairly close to this color.

  40. Tiffany says:

I love you living room too, it looks like we have very similar taste
