Fancy Holiday Matches

During this time of the year I find I always have matches out ~ either to light a fire, light the menorahs or just to light candles on our mantle.  So I decided that the usual grocery store box of matches was no longer *quite* the look I wanted out.

Wait until you see how super fast and easy this project is!

Materials:

pretty piece of scrapbook paper or cardstock, ruler & pencil, scissors or paper cutter, bone folder, spray adhesive or a Xyron sticker machine, embellishments and matches

Cut your scrapbook paper as wide as the length of the box of matches and then you want it as long as the top + bottom + one side of the box.  Draw lines where the side of your box is on the inside of your scrapbook paper.

Now use your bone folder to fold in on those lines to get nice, crisp folds {if you don’t have a bone folder, you can get one at Michael’s – they come in handy for all sorts of projects and aren’t very expensive}.

Now, embellish the top with whatever you’d like.  I added a simple initial sticker to mine {I am a deprived crafter and do not own a Cricut.  Hint, hint, family!}.  Once you add whatever decoration you wish, you can either spray the inside with spray adhesive or run it through a sticker machine {I did a sticker machine because it was less messy}.  Then attach it to your box of matches, leaving your “strike” side free to use!

Look how much prettier this will look with our menorahs this year for Hanukkah!

This would also make a quick and easy hostess gift wrapped up with a few pretty candles!

P.S.  I deserve extra Mommy points for both completing this project and writing this post while The Cuties tormented me with deafening levels of a Ke$ha dance party.
