Foyer Tour

This Friday I’m again participating in the Show Us Your Life link up at Kelly’s Korner.

This week it’s foyers.

Here’s what you see when you first walk into our home {and clearly I didn’t tuck my purse quite as far away as I had intended, LOL!}~

If you stand at the base of the stairs and turn around, you see our little entry and double door area.  This is great at helping to manage the cold New England weather when you have the heat on and need to open your front door {it also comes in handy with a new puppy in the house who wants to make a mad dash each time the door opens!}.

{the blue tape on the floor is part of our training system to keep the dog out of the dining room with silk drapes and grasscloth wallpaper.  I’ll let you know how that goes}.

Here’s one of our many back doors.  Our alarm system has a feature where it will announce each time a door opens; this is great, especially with children in the home.  However, we have five doors attached and it labels them all directionally.  I have NO clue when it tells me that “the southeastern door is ajar” which door it’s talking about and go running around trying to find out what’s open.  I’m easily confused like that.  The whole point of this photo however, was not to show you that I’m not that clever, but rather the really pretty tiling that the previous owners put in and the sweet way The Cuties put up the Hanukkah window clings {the door on the left is our powder room}.

Those two small oval frames are The Cuties silhouettes I had done by Lena Bengtson when they were about 18 months and 3.  If you have the opportunity to watch a silhouette artist at work I highly recommend it ~ it’s amazing to watch their nimble scissors fly!

Here’s looking up our staircase at part of our picture wall.  If you’re interested in seeing it continue up the other wall or learn how to do one yourself, there are more photos and a tutorial here.

Turning around, here’s a close up of our little table in the entryway.  The table belonged to my grandmother for whom Big Cutie is named.  It always sat in her entryway, so I especially love having it in mine.  The black and white photograph on the wall is of our house the year it was finished and has stayed with the home through all of the many different owners {and of course more glittered dreidles & Hanukkah decor!}.

Finally, a close up of the glasswork on our front door in the entryway.  When I am frustrated by the pitfalls of owning an older home I like to go around and stare at the cool little architectural details like these to make myself feel better.  It’s that or spiking my Starbucks somedays.  Artsy photography seems like a much better choice!

I love your house! It’s beautiful and full of charm. We have an old home with old wood floors too; how do you clean yours? I use a combo of vinegar/water, but sometimes feel it’s not quite clean enough.
    Thanks for the tour!
