Children’s Room Tours

It’s Friday, so you know that means I’m joining in on the Show Us Your Life tour over at Kelly’s Korner.  This week is children’s rooms, which I’m very excited to go check out on everyone else’s Blogs!  The Cuties’ rooms have always been the closest to “done” we’ve ever come in our homes, starting with their nurseries and continuing today.

I’ll start with Big Cutie’s room.  She’s had this decor from ages five through nine and it’s transitioned well so far.  I can easily see us working with this for a good long while still {fingers crossed!}.  I have to confess that this is pretty much my dream girl room and when we were house hunting and I saw that window seat, I knew we’d found the place for us.  Here’s looking in from the hallway ~

Big shout out to Cute Husband who not only installed that lavender chandelier, but didn’t bat an eye when it arrived in the mail and was the plug in kind and needed to be completely rewired before he could switch out the old fixture!  Not bad for a finance guy!

Here’s a close up of her window seat with a cushion made out a spare coverlet.  All the pillows except for the monogrammed one came from different Etsy sellers.

Here’s where you’ll find her most days after school and extracurriculars, as this is her “homework spot.”  Big Cutie likes organization {as opposed to Little Cutie, who’s more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants kinda gal!}, so each pencil cup has a purpose, each desk drawer has a category, and you can even see she made herself storage boxes from an American Girl magazine project.  I’m all teary-eyed, I’m so proud!  She also even figured out that the odd extra ten inches left at the top of her built-ins were a perfect display area for all the paint your own pottery the Cuties like to do.

And finally looking back, that’s the door to the hallway on the left and her closet door on the right.  She and I made another Nester ragamuffin garland for above her bed and we hung all sorts of fun goodies from it: her calling cards, mini shopping bags, oversized gems, etc.  {Those ribbons hang her name, but have been blurred out for privacy}.

Moving on to Little Cutie’s Room…..

Looking back the other direction.  Her closet is the door on the left and the hallway door is the one on the right {underneath her angel bunny, as she calls him}.  That little door on the left is just plumbing and electrical into the adjacent bathroom ~ I always think it should be a secret door to somewhere much more interesting!

Here’s a cheap clever trick.  The panels in Little Cutie’s room were from the Pottery Barn outlet and I found them for $9.99 each.  But I wanted something with a little more “oomf.”  So I bought some pom pom fringe and {here’s where the talented seamstresses should cover their eyes in horror} glue-gunned it on to add a little extra fun for a girl’s room.

Little Cutie’s Felt So Cute headband stash.  She’s already given me written instructions that her “next room” needs more storage for “hare exsessoreez.”  Duly noted!

I made Little Cutie this lamp a few years ago.  It was a really easy project that I will share soon as we have a room switcheroo coming next year for her that I’m sure will merit a new lamp or two!  Photographing my daughters’ rooms always makes me realize my monogramming problem isn’t fading just because they no longer wear monogrammed dresses!

Finally, if you look at the first photo from Little Cutie’s room you’ll see a tiny straw hat hanging from one of the finials on her curtain rods.  I’m not a big saver, but I LOVE that hat.  I have always been a HUGE hat girl, and while pregnant with her, I found that hat and had to have it, even though I don’t usually buy much until our babies arrive.  Little Cutie wore it pretty much every day her first and second summer, and I have a nearly identical Helen Kaminski one.  I was so sad when she outgrew it!  Little Cutie is six now, but here she is wearing her straw hat at six months ~
